Entanglement is the main human-related threat to large whales and other small cetaceans. Globally, an estimated 386 000 whales, dolphins, and porpoises die from entanglement each year. In South Africa, an increase in whale entanglements is threatening Southern Right, Humpback and Bryde’s whales.
